MARJORIE’S JOURNEY: ON A MISSION OF HER OWN

Professor Ailie Cleghorn Ph.D., Professor in Educational Studies, University of Concordia, Montreal, Canada

Ailie was born in 1940 in Toronto, Canada. Her mother was Sheena Marnoch Cleghorn, daughter of Sir John and Lady Marnoch of Aberdeen. Her father, Dr. Robert Cleghorn, received his medical training in Toronto. At the recommendation of Dr. J.J. MacLeod, he worked for a time in Sir John’s lab; it was there he met Sheena.

Ailie is a comparative sociologist of education, having obtained a doctoral degree from McGill University in Montreal in 1981. Over the last 30 years, she carried out several studies in African primary and pre-primary school settings.

In January 2021, she retired as full professor from Concordia University in Montreal. She has authored and co-authored several academic books including "Shades of Globalization in Three Early Childhood Settings: Views from India, South Africa and Canada". She turned to non-fiction story-telling with "Marjorie’s Journey: On a Mission of Her Own".
