Dr Helen Lillie

31 August 1890 – 1977

Awarded a number of medals whilst a medical student, graduating MB ChB in 1914.

She acquired surgical skills whilst working at Sheffield Royal Infirmary. In 1916, she went with the American Unit of the Scottish Women’s Hospitals to Macedonia, where she was valued as a capable surgeon.

In 1918, she was transferred to the Scottish Women’s Hospital at Royaumont in France where her skills were required during the final push.

Wrote an MD on Malaria with special reference to Macedonia.

1921 became a missionary with the Church of Scotland in Sialkot, India and in 1925 married the Rev John Garrett.
