2021 is the 250th anniversary of the birth of Sir James McGrigor, the Father of the British Army Medical Services.

The University of Aberdeen has published a biography of McGrigor, which includes an excellent video and book producd by MedChi member, Mr Tom Scotland.

The Aberdeen Medico-Chirurgical Society intend to hold a “virtual seminar" on Thursday 15 April. This will be open to alumni and MedChi members, as well as other guests. Further details will be available in due course.

The Society, along with the Lord Provost and representatives from Aberdeen City Council will be running a commemorative civic event at the McGrigor obelisk in Duthie Park at 11.00 am on Friday 9 April, 2021. The guests at the commemorative wreath laying will include Mr Barney Crockett, the Lord Provost, Professor George Boyne, the Principal of University of Aberdeen, Brigadier Timothy Hodgetts, the Director-General of the Army, Sir James and Lady Mary McGrigor, Professor Alison Murray, President of Aberdeen Medico-Chirurgical Society, Professor Linda Lynch, chairperson NHS Grampian and other invited guests.  The invitation to attend will be open to the members of all the organisations involved and will be contingent on the Covid-19 restrictions applying at the time.
