2021 is the 250th anniversary of the birth of Sir James McGrigor, the Father of the British Army Medical Services.

The Aberdeen Medico-Chirurgical Society and the University of Aberdeen intend to hold a commemorative “virtual seminar" on Friday 9 April (note change of date). This will be open to university alumni, MedChi members, and guests. Programme and booking.

The University of Aberdeen has published a biography of McGrigor, which includes information on an excellent video and book, both producd by MedChi member, Mr Tom Scotland.

We had hoped to run a civic event with a wreath laying at the McGrigor obelisk in Duthie Park on 9th and the seminar at a later date. However, a large event is not possible under Covid-19 restrictions, so the seminar will be on-line and will be held on the actual anniversary.
