The essence of General Practice - 10 years on
John Gillies qualified from Edinburgh University and after junior hospital posts, worked as a medical officer in Malawi, Africa where he carried out research into the epidemiology of endemic goitre and cretinism. From 1985, he was a principal in rural general practice in Glenluce Wigtownshire and then for 16 years in Selkirk in Scottish Borders until 2013. He was a GP trainer and Training Programme Director with NHS Education Scotland until 2012.
