MEDICAL EDUCATION IN THE TIME OF COVID-19

Alan Denison graduated from University of Aberdeen in 1996. Following junior posts in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh, he returned to Aberdeen to train in Radiology in 2000. He developed an interest in medical education and latterly was MBChB Programme Lead and Deputy Director of the Institute of Education for Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition at University of Aberdeen.

In 2019 he was appointed as Dean of Postgraduate Medicine, NHS Education for Scotland. He is Lead Dean Director in the Scotland Deanery for all doctors training in Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Paediatrics, and in the Diagnostics specialties. He has a regional portfolio covering the North and Rural and Remote issues and at a UK level Renal and Infectious diseases training. In NES, he co-leads the Training Management Workstream that oversees all ~5000 trainees in Scotland. He continues to work clinically as a Consultant Radiologist, is a Council Member of the Academy of Medical Educators and also a GMC Education Associate. He lives in Aberdeen with his family and enjoys running and playing the accordion.
