After completing a degree in biochemistry, Pauline, studied medicine at the University of Aberdeen, graduating with an honours degree in 1998. She comleted her junior doctor jobs in Aberdeen and Elgin and Specialist Registrar Training (General Internal Medicine) in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Raigmore, Inverness.

Pauline is a Shetlander who returned home to work as a Consultant Physician in 2005. One of her areas of interest is teaching and training and she has been Director of Medical Education for NHS Shetland since 2017.  In 2016, she was delighted to be awarded the Royal College of Edinburgh’s Cullen Prize for high quality education and innovation.

Pauline is passionate about the delivery of high-quality person-centred healthcare in remote and island communities and in 2020, she took on the role of Associate Postgraduate Dean for the NHS Education for Scotland and has been involved in the development of the GMC-Approved Remote and Rural Credential in Unscheduled and Urgent Care. She believes that the credential will equip rural doctors, assure employers and importantly benefit those living in rural and Island communities.
