Isabella Kerr née Gunn was born in Fochabers in 1875. She graduated in 1903 in Medicine. She began missionary work with her husband, George McGlashan Kerr in 1907 in Dichpali, India.
She observed a high prevalence of leprosy in the region and set up a leprosy hospital with the help of a local Hindu. In 1922 she introduced a treatment for leprosy, Chaulmoogra oil, which reduced the death rate from 20% to 4%.
